Mendoza Launches New Solar Power Project

Mendoza plans to install a 305 MW solar park, reducing 455,378 tons of CO2 emissions annually. The project will create 400 jobs during construction.

Mendoza Launches New Solar Power Project

The El Quemado solar photovoltaic park, located in Mendoza, will be inaugurated in two phases with a total investment of US$ 220 million and a final installed capacity of 305 MW. In its first phase, it will have more than 330,000 bifacial panels over an area of 350 hectares, preventing the emission of approximately 455,378 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

The governor of Mendoza, Alfredo Cornejo, announced the goal of reaching 700 MW of renewable energy capacity in the next two years. The project was acquired by YPF Luz in 2023 and the first phase is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2026 after a construction period of 18 months.

The solar park will generate employment for more than 400 people during peak construction periods, contributing to local economic development. It will be interconnected to the Argentine Electric Transport System (SADI) through a new Transformer Substation. This project is the first in renewable energy presented under the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI).

Among the technical features of the park, an estimated capacity factor of 31.4% stands out, enough to supply energy to more than 274,000 homes. It will consist of 514,000 bifacial photovoltaic panels and will occupy a total area of 2816 hectares, of which 350 will be allocated for the solar park.
